Official opening for innovative research facility (REMO lab) at ENTRANCE’s energy testing site

State-of-the-art renewable molecules (REMO) laboratory provides research facilities and is equipped with several automated measuring and controlling devices.
Opening REMO-lab

Following conclusion of the cooperation agreement between Hanze and GasTerra on 22 February 2023, construction of the facilities began almost straight away at energy testing site ENTRANCE in Groningen. Today, during the New Energy Forum, the REMO lab was officially opened and testing can begin.

The REMO (renewable molecules) lab offers potential for research in three areas: the conversion of various biomass residual flows to biogas through fermentation; the conversion of various aqueous streams to green hydrogen through electrolysis; and the linking or integration of these two technologies. In these scenarios, the residual flow from fermentation, such as digestate, can serve as input for electrolysis, while the green hydrogen produced can increase biogas production from fermentation.

To enable this research, a state-of-the-art laboratory has been set up with a range of automated measuring and controlling devices. It goes without saying that great attention has been paid to the safety of the installations, which meet the most up-to-date requirements.

The first research proposals for the REMO lab have now been prepared and projects will start soon. Hanze researchers are eager to start using this modern research facility. Interested parties can contact ENTRANCE to find out how they can benefit from using the REMO lab and conduct their own research together with Hanze students and staff.
