The heat was on during the VMBO Debate Battle

For the sixth time, the GasTerra VMBO Debate Battle took place in the Groninger Forum. On 5 and 6 April students of the northern VMBO schools crossed swords on the basis of divergent statements about sustainability, energy saving and current issues that appeal to todays’ youth.

The GasTerra VMBO Debate Battle was yet another spectacle. The third grade students of the northern VMBO schools vigorously debated and made the battle a regular spectacle. It is nice to see that the younger generation often has refreshing ideas about shower times, zoos and telephone use. The jury, among others, consisting of GasTerra CEO Annie Krist and her colleagues Anja Hulshof and Teun Tielen had a tough task! But after intensive deliberation they agreed: CGS Rehoboth from Hoogezand, RSG De Borgen from Grootegast and CSG Augustinus from Groningen had just done a little better than their competitors. The winners went home with a tablet computer and, of course, accompanied by eternal fame.

In the months leading up to the contest, the students are given lessons in the art of debating from the masters of Kalliope, the Groninger Debating Society. GasTerra specialists also give energy lessons at the participating schools so that they are well prepared for combat. And combatting they did! Though the temperatures outside left a lot to be desired for, inside the Forum the heat was definitely on.

Besides the annual Debate Battle, GasTerra is also involved in many more educational projects and activities, varying from the "Your Energy of the Future" truck, programs and events of IVN to supporting studies and research initiatives at the University of Groningen and the Hanze University of Applied Sciences.
