On January 17, the Dutch cabinet has adopted a package of measures on the future gas production from the Groningen Field. The immediate cause was the increasing frequency and strength of earth quakes in the area due to production activities. One of the measures is decreasing the extraction of gas from five production clusters in the center of the field, around the village of Loppersum. Besides, the cabinet has decided to limit the yearly production from the Groningen Field to a maximum of 42,5 billion cubic meters (BCM) per year.
GasTerra believes that the new production limits and the compensating measures do justice to the interests of all those concerned: the inhabitants of North East Groningen, the economic interests of the Netherlands, the involved companies and the buyers of Dutch gas. GasTerra will contribute to the successful execution of the cabinet decision.
