The three familiar cornerstones of corporate social responsibility, People, Planet, Profit have been translated into Gas, Green and Groningen by GasTerra. Why we have chosen ‘Groningen’ is obvious; we think it’s important to make a meaningful contribution towards the local community to which we belong. We do this by participating in different projects and initiatives which focus on ‘greening’ our society, such as Sustainable Ameland and EnTranCe. GasTerra also sponsors several sporting, cultural, educational and social activities.
After GasTerra was established in 2005, the sponsorship policy focused on activities and projects that could raise awareness for our brand in the region. The main example of this is providing financial support to Groningen’s professional basketball club Donar. Meanwhile we have shifted our attention and over the last few years we have been focussing increasingly on social and cultural sponsorship (good causes). We also contribute towards educational activities, by providing both knowledge and financial resources. Occupying a key position here is the role of our product and our company in the transition towards a climate-neutral energy supply.
In this context we launched the ‘GasTerra for Groningen’ project in 2015, in which we examine how we can, aside from sponsorship and donations, contribute towards making the Groningen economy structurally more robust.
