Energetic primary schools

We have developed the learning module ‘Energieke basisscholen’  (‘energetic primary schools’) together with the Dutch institute for nature education and sustainability (IVN). The module is a fun way to teach children about sustainable energy and the required energy transition.

Learning module

This learning module is aimed at pupils in the 5th to 8th year of primary school and will be offered to all primary schools in Groningen and Drenthe over the next few years.

The learning module was put together in close collaboration with four primary schools and takes a total of one month to complete. The schools are free to interpret the learning module in their own way. Over the next few years, the lesson boxes will circulate around more than 300 primary schools with the aim of introducing around 10,000 children to the contents of this module.

Lesson boxes

The project kicked off in early 2015 when 17 primary schools in the municipality of Aa en Hunze got to work on this learning module. Each school received a lesson box containing a manual, workbooks and experiments that the children could carry out themselves. The primary school teachers were trained in advance so that they could teach the basic principles of the energy transition. About IVN
IVN (Dutch Institute for Nature Education and Sustainability) states that its mission is to make people appreciate nature again. If people can be moved by the beauty and vulnerability of nature, they will be inspired to protect nature and to act in a sustainable manner themselves. That’s why IVN encourages people of all ages to experience nature at first hand. We connect them through our green initiatives which focus on nature and social themes such as food, health and energy. We do this with around twenty thousand committed members and a huge network of green professionals. www.ivn.nl
