New energy related technologies
GasTerra actively contributes towards the development and introduction of new energy-related technologies with its expertise and financial support. The emphasis lies on decentralised power generation, as this offers the best prospects for energy efficiency.
Fuels cells are a promising example of a decentralised energy technology application. Fuel cells use natural gas to produce hydrogen that in turn is used to produce heat and electricity in an electrochemical process involving oxygen. They are highly efficient and emit virtually no harmful gases. GasTerra is involved in fuel cell field tests together with the Noordelijke Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij in Veenkoloniën, Heerhugowaard and on Ameland.
